It was a pleasure for All Good Reporters (AGR) to once again provide CART services for Canine Companions for Independence Southeast Region’s Hearing Dog Team Graduation ceremony. The ceremony was held on September 16, 2021, at Canine Companions of the Southeast Region’s training center building on Clarcona Ocoee Road in Orlando.
CART (also called Realtime Captioning) stands for Communication Access Realtime Translation. It is used by hard of hearing and deaf people who use English as their first language. All Good Reporters have been providing CART services for various organizations for the past ten years. AGR works in tandem oftentimes with ASL interpreters to provide access for the hearing impaired.
This year’s Canine Companions team graduation ceremony was organized by the staff at Canine Companion’s Southeast Region, including Martha Johnson, Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator, and presented by Mari Johnson, Hearing Dog Instructor. Sign-language interpreter was Torri Diaz, ASL interpreter. The amazing canine graduates included: Miso III, Pam V and Prince VI.
All Good Reporters wrote captions throughout the ceremony which were displayed so that deaf participants could be privy to every element of this important, transformative and life-changing occasion. We used two streaming outputs of delivery from our Eclipse Accucap Captioning Software:Â Â On site we used the Text On Top Wireless Captioning System developed by Sander Pasveer, a software/hardware engineer with Velotype in the Netherlands. The one line of TOT captions are streaming at the bottom of the two on-site projector screens. Simultaneously, we live-streamed the captions to YouTube via the Internet.
